Terrorist Financing Targeting Center Hosts Info-Sharing Session and Targeting Meeting on Terror Finance in Africa
On August 24, 2023, The Terrorist Financing Targeting Center (TFTC) hosted an info-sharing session and targeting meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The closed-door meetings, which were focused on terrorist financing networks in Africa, were conducted in line with TFTC’s "Memorandum of Understanding on Countering the Financing of Terrorism" signed on May 21, 2017. The MOU highlights both 1) identifying, tracking, and sharing information about terrorist financing networks and related activities of mutual concern as well as 2) coordinating joint disruptive actions including sanctions designations and spurring law enforcement action.
The TFTC also welcomed the United Nations 1267 Monitoring Team to brief on TF in Africa specifically on ISIS trends and financing efforts the team is tracking with a nexus to the Arabian Peninsula. These sessions provided a valuable opportunity for TFTC members to discuss the impacts of terrorism throughout Africa and its impacts to the Gulf region in addition to the relevance and implementation of United Nations Security Council sanctions regime.
