Terrorist Financing Targeting Center Hosts Information Sharing Session and Targeting Meeting on the Houthis

On May 15, 2024, the Terrorist Financing Targeting Center (TFTC) hosted an information sharing session and targeting meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This session focused on how TFTC member countries can coordinate on sharing pertinent information related to terrorist financing of malignant Houthi destabilizing activity in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden and broader Iranian regional destabilizing activity. The meetings included presentations across the United States government including the Department of Treasury, the Department of State and Department of Defense as well as presentations by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, State of Kuwait, and Bahrain. The session also included active participation for all member states including Qatar, Oman and United Arab Emirates.

US Ambassador to the Republic of Yemen, Ambassador Steven H. Fagin, provided opening remarks to this critical session highlighting the importance of the TFTC’s efforts in developing an effective strategy for disrupting illicit financial and transportation networks that support Iran backed Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) Houthis.

The information sharing session and targeting meeting were conducted in line with the TFTC’s MOU including: a) identifying, tracking, and sharing information regarding terrorist financial networks and related activity of mutual concern, including related threats emanating from countries and terrorist organizations; and b) coordinating action, such as joint sanctions designations or other disruptions against terrorist and their financial networks.
